I think we’re basically set for the move to www.Missyisms.com! I’m still tweaking things at that site, but it is up and running. Please check it out! Thank you for being patient the last few weeks (months?) as I’ve been moving things around. As long as the server-side stuff doesn’t kill me, I think www.Missyisms.com will be our new home!

If you have a feed reader or link to this blog: please, please, please change the URL to http://www.missyisms.com. Thank you, I don’t want to lose you!

Please look to Missyisms.com for all new posts! Thanks again, and see you there!!!

A secret.

There are several things I like about TypePad, but since I’m sick, I’m not going to list them now. 😉

One thing I don’t like is that they don’t do much to promote the blogs using their service. They always have a short list of "Recently Updated Blogs," but it is very short and NOW they’ve moved it from their homepage to a screen only viewable after users log on. Way to go…take the little publicity you provide and reduce it even further!!!!! I’ve commented on this before here.

Well, shock of shocks…on a whim, I checked the list after posting tonight’s previous blog about the sweltering heat and zowwy shock…Missyisms was listed. Will wonders never cease! (Missyisms has been on the list before because it’s generated a few hits, but this is the first time I’ve seen it on the list.)

The Chicago Tribune listed their choices for the "Top 50 Web Sites" in today’s "Tempo" section. We’re proud to announce that Missyisms, this very blog you are currently reading, was right up there with all the other great websites that just missed the list! We’re like the want-to-be professional athletes invited to training camp for a tryout and told, "Kid, you would have been our next selection if the draft had only gone one more round." All kidding aside…since we have a relative working for the Tribune, Missyisms just simply wasn’t eligible. Them’s the breaks.

Keyschool_2I haven’t read the entire Trib list, but they did mention TelevisionWithoutPity, which is a great laugh, Flickr, whose blog I enjoy, and Google Maps, which is both helpful and lots of fun to use. For example, where else could I find a picture of my first elementary school? Shown here is Google Maps’ God’s eye view of Key Elementary School in Tulsa, OK. Even though I only attended kindergarten and first grade at Key, I remember those never-ending hallways. My kindergarten class was at the end of the long hall at the bottom of the picture. What I don’t remember about this school is the out buildings spelling "hi" and the purple roofs! (Which seems odd considering how many times I was sent to the roof for bad behavior exhibited in the out buildings. Hmm.)

But, the Trib also mentioned some clunkers. I’ve heard of Bad Sweater Guy, but this is the first time I’ve looked at the site. In less than five minutes I was finished; maybe I missed the weave.

Clarence House says that Prince might join the Blues and Royals in Iraq.

Confused? Let me decipher: The Prince of Wales, a.k.a. Prince Charles, who lives at Clarence House in London, has announced that his youngest son, Prince Harry, will be joining–after he graduates from military school–the Household Cavalry, a.k.a. the Blues and Royals, and that means he, Harry, might see active duty in Iraq.

Now, wasn’t it easier to say "Clarence House says that Prince might join the Blues and Royals in Iraq?"

It makes me think that I should name my house. After all, if it’s good enough for the White House and lots of homes in the U.K. have names…so why not my home? Particularly if my home will then start speaking!

Think about the possibilities! Maybe my house would speak to me:

  • When I enter a room it might say: THIS ROOM HAS REACHED DUST TOLERANCE LEVELS. COMMENCE DUSTING IMMEDIATELY.
  • Maybe it would alert me to repair needs: WATER PIPE IN EXTERIOR SOUTHERN WALL IS ABOUT TO FREEZE. PREPARE TO BAIL.
  • Helpful hints might be expressed: YOU CAN’T WEAR THAT IN PUBLIC!
  • Perhaps it would greet me when I come home: AND JUST WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?!?

Or, maybe instead of talking to me, it would talk to everyone else about me…

  • AT 2:00 P.M. MONDAY, MISSYISMS DITCHED WORK AND TOOK A THREE HOUR NAP.
  • MISSYISMS IS, OF COURSE, GREATLY DISTURBED BY THE PALESTINIAN ELECTION NEWS COMING OUT TODAY. (Need to have some reality within the humor.)
  • MISSYISMS ENJOYED A DINNER OF ICE CREAM AND CAKE, FOLLOWED BY A SLURPIE KICKER. INDIGESTION FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY.

But, we need a name; something solid, something artful, yet authoritative…after all, it’s going to speak! I have a few ideas. Click the link below for possible names.

The other day I teased you with some "up close" pictures. I think it’s well past time to reveal the answers.

First, in case you’ve forgotten the images, here’s a repeat of the up close pictures:

I had a lovely, sarcastic, poetic, sweetly, ranting blog for this evening…

…then I found out I was wrong. I had to delete the blog before I could even post. It was all about hot dog buns and the postal service, but…poof…it’s gone. I admit defeat.

And what am I left with? A night that winter returned to Chicago-land…another dangerous drive through a blizzard…snow blanketing my suddenly cold world…and a Miniature Schnauzer who is so short he’s outside using his head like a bulldozer to get through the snow. Sigh. Tomorrow I’ll not only shovel the driveway, but venture into the backyard to stomp out tunnels for the pooch.

Now, wouldn’t you have rather heard about hot dog buns and the postal service? I would have.

"Skating is very, very hard, possibly even harder than hoofing,…"

No! You think?

Of all things, that’s a quote from a Chicago Tribune mini-review of a new Fox television show called "Skating with Celebrities." As previously mentioned here, "Skating" appears to be a "copy" of ABC’s "Dancing with the Stars"–thus the skating/hoofer comparison in the quote.

Yeah, I think skating–you know on thinly edged blades on ice–is probably a smidge more difficult than dancing on one’s feet. Not that dancing is easy, but please! Give the writer his or her own crystal toe pick for that insightful comment!

I was going to post several short movie reviews tonight. They’re partially written, but are dull and insipid because I’m tired and lethargic. Ever since my flu bout last week, I’ve been struggling to catch up with sleep. Every time I think I’m close WHAM something knocks me back into Weary World. Last night I had trouble falling asleep and then Reggie woke me up three times to go out. This is definitely a one night record. The first two times we went out he played instead of doing his business, so I refused to take him out the third time. You can imagine how awful I felt when he obviously wasn’t feeling well this morning and then he was sick out in the backyard about 11:30 this morning!

How do I explain to a dog that waking me up in the middle of the night to play is bad, but waking me up at any hour because he’s sick is good? Sigh.

Back to movies. I hope I’ll get the energy to finish those reviews, but in the mean time…tonight the Golden Globe winners were announced. To my count Pride and Prejudice got zilch; no big surprise here. While it was a good movie (bad adaptation) the only shot it had to win tonight was Keira Knightley as Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. I didn’t see all the performances in this category, but in my opinion Reese Witherspoon‘s nuanced performance in Walk the Line beat Knightley’s Elizabeth. The Hollywood Foreign Press agreed with me because Witherspoon won. In fact, Walk the Line won at least three awards–it’s a surprisingly excellent movie if you haven’t seen it.

Now, if Reggie and I can both sleep through the night and well into the morning 😉 maybe we’ll both feel better tomorrow.

I think it’s time for a little fun. Here’s some close-up pictures of common items found around a home. Can you guess what they are? (Click on an image for a larger view. Boy, these are too easy!)
